Bulgaria

We decided to accompany Barbara to Bulgaria in the middle of September to visit her sister Pam and her husband Adam. After hearing all summer about how hot the weather had been we thought it would make a nice change from Glasgow to see some sun and flew over there. Unfortunately the bad weather of the UK seemed to follow us and we experienced a break in their 2 month drought and freezing temperatures! I was not happy, especially after last years experience to Tuscany! However we still had a good time and managed to see a bit of the countryside.

Pam and Adam have bought a house out there and have started up a B&B www.balkansunbandb.com They have a lovely house and were very hospitable hosts. We were quite surprised at how rundown Bulgaria was as had been expecting lots of rejuvination. They have just entered the EU though so lots of money will be going into building up the infrastructure and economy again. It still feels quite communist although having been out of communism for the last 20-odd years.

Simon and Barbara flew out before me as I went to London for the weekend before hand. Simon then came back to Sofia to meet me and we had a day in Sofia together. Here are some photos of our trip.
